How to Get the Windows 8 Charms Bar on Your Windows 7 Desktop
If you miss the charms bar from Windows 8 and want to bring it back to your Windows 7 desktop, there is a simple way to do it using a free program called RocketDock. RocketDock is a customizable application launcher that lets you add a Mac-style navigation bar to your PC's desktop. You can also use a skin for RocketDock that mimics the look and feel of the Windows 8 charms bar.
In this article, we will show you how to download and install RocketDock and the Windows 8 charms bar skin, and how to use the charms bar on your Windows 7 desktop.

Download and Install RocketDock
The first step is to download and install RocketDock from its official website: https://punklabs.com/downloads/RocketDock-v1.3.5.exe. You can also use a portable version of RocketDock if you prefer.
Once you have downloaded the RocketDock installer, run it and follow the instructions to complete the installation. You can choose where to install RocketDock, whether to create shortcuts, and whether to store the settings in a portable .ini file.
Download and Install the Windows 8 Charms Bar Skin
The next step is to download the Windows 8 charms bar skin for RocketDock from this link: https://windows-8-charms-bar-skin.en.softonic.com/download. The skin is a .rar file that you need to extract using a program like WinRAR or 7-Zip.
Once you have extracted the file, you will see three folders and a StartMenu.exe file. Copy the \"Charmbar transparent\" folder to the Skins folder in the RocketDock program folder. The RocketDock program folder will be in C:\\Program Files for 32-bit Windows or in C:\\Programs Files (x86) for 64-bit Windows, unless you installed it elsewhere.
Copy the new Icons folder to the RocketDock program folder, replacing the existing one and the files in it. The Settings folder contains two settings files, Settings.ini and Settingstransparent.ini. The Settings.ini will give you a charms bar with a black background, like the one in Windows 8. To get a charms bar with a black background, copy the Settings.ini file to the root of the RocketDock program folder, replacing the current Settings.ini file, if there is one.
However, if you want a transparent charms bar, rename the Settingstransparent.ini file to Settings.ini and copy that file to the RocketDock program folder. The Startmenu.exe file also needs to be moved into the RocketDock folder.
Use the Charms Bar on Your Windows 7 Desktop
The final step is to launch RocketDock and enjoy your new charms bar on your Windows 7 desktop. You won't see the bar at first because you need to move your mouse cursor to the right side of the screen to access it. Here is a list of what the icons on the charms bar do:
Search â Opens up an Explorer window with the Search box active
Share â Opens up Network Connections
Start â Opens up StartMenu.exe which gives you access to your programs and settings
Devices â Opens up Device Manager
Settings â Opens up Control Panel
You can also customize your charms bar by right-clicking on it and selecting Dock Settings. You can change its position, style, behavior, icons, and more.
That's it! You have successfully added a Windows 8 charms bar to your Windows 7 desktop using RocketDock and a free skin. If you have any questions or problems, feel free to leave a comment below. 0efd9a6b88
